Flashbulbs And Futures Leftovers

This is the story of being pleasantly surprised at what I found when looking through these leftovers.
In revising Flashbulbs And Futures for the site, I unexpectedly gained a new appreciation for it. While not anticipating the same to apply with these leftovers, they also caught me off-guard. It’s not that I was thinking they’d be god awful, it’s just that my previous experience with material like this has been… mixed.
With that being the case, I think the standouts here are Fighting In The War, Clutch Your Head, Awkward Lines and maybe Strange Beginnings. Awkward Lines was actually on the original version of the grouping (along with another thing) but got cut when shuffling stuff around and revising the lyrics for this website. (Don’t worry, it’s all available in the Fireteddy National Library.)
Anyway, I could also be high on these because there wasn’t much material to sort through. This grouping was written fairly quickly in several mini sessions, resulting in few leftovers.

Strange Beginnings
Strangely I don’t even fit
But patiently is where I sit
Revolvers for this lonely state
I’m finding I can’t concentrate
Write down what you wanna hear
It makes no difference to me, dear
Take what’s yours and leave behind
The things that you won’t ever find
Strange beginnings where we start
To watch these lives get torn apart
A cynic lies in everyone
But now it’s time to come undone
These strange beginnings are so much fun
Close your eyes and touch your nose
Impaired in fears of life alone
Nothing’s sacred, sure or safe
In jealousy to grow irate
Obsessions make you uglier
And the fear will fuel your hate
Strange beginnings where we start
To watch these lives get torn apart
A cynic lies in everyone
But now it’s time to come undone
These strange beginnings are so much fun
Excuses bailing out the same
It’s all held up in parlour games
Sacrificed to live in pain
With all our new beginnings strained
We’ll watch as they all go insane
Clutch Your Head
Waking up from centuries
Of living life misled
You can stumble to your feet now
Or just try to clutch your head
Well everyone’s moronic
For even daring to connect
We writhe around all jaded
When it never makes much sense
Your hatred starts to fester from intolerance and greed
It’s drawn into that head of yours but there sure ain’t no relief
Well baby don’t it sicken you? It must make you wanna scream
Because you know it’s not a nightmare but it’s more than just a dream
Holding out for parasites
To compromise their plans
Only strains of awkward feedback
Or a line drawn in the sand
Well nobody can take it
As they’re screaming to be heard
Until the roles are finally lifted
Taking cues from the absurd
Your hatred starts to fester from intolerance and greed
It’s drawn into that head of yours but there sure ain’t no relief
Well baby don’t it sicken you? It must make you wanna scream
Because you know it’s not a nightmare but it’s more than just a dream
You know it’s not a nightmare but it’s more than just a dream
Faded lines to read between
But nothing ever makes much sense
When everything seems so obscene
You can’t believe what they’ve all said
But all you ever do is clutch your head
Your hatred starts to fester from intolerance and greed
It’s drawn into that head of yours but there sure ain’t no relief
Well baby don’t it sicken you? It must make you wanna scream
You can’t believe it, you can’t believe
Your hatred starts to fester from intolerance and greed
It’s drawn into that head of yours but there sure ain’t no relief
Well baby don’t it sicken you? It must make you wanna scream
Because you know it’s not a nightmare but it’s more than just a dream
You know it’s not a nightmare but it’s more than just a dream
Waking up from centuries
Of living life misled
You can stumble to your feet now
Or just try to clutch, just try to clutch your head
Deathwatch 11
Here’s a song for all the critics
Crank it up and churn it out
It’s always over-crowded here
So I’m living in your doubts
Hollow phrases for your image
Comfort lines to meet the sounds
No more ears to lend out here, I fear
The sky keeps falling down
Kept in your place, all the logic’s defaced
Can’t you tell that it’s all in your head?
It’s caught in the breeze until you get what you please
But I don’t think there’s anything left
Here’s a song for all the cynics
With complaints sung out of tune
It’s never good enough to walk away
As their lives all fall to ruin
Flying in your face, all the logic’s replaced
Why can’t you see that it’s all in your head?
Floating on the breeze until you get what you please
But I don’t think there’s any fight left
Now I don’t wanna sound too insincere
But I still fear for what’s to come
We can put it off for another day
But I always feel so dumb
I always feel so dumb
Flying in your face, all the logic’s replaced
Yeah you’re such a disgrace but I can’t wash the taste away now
Flying in your face, all the logic’s replaced
Why can’t you see that it’s all in your head?
Floating on the breeze until you get what you please
But I don’t think there’s any fight left
I don’t think there’s any fight left
Fighting In The War
You and I stood side by side
When we were fighting in the war
There was nothing left for us to hide
When we were fighting in the war
Down in bunker sheltered nights
When we were fighting in the war
There’s nothing left to leave behind
When you’re fighting in the war
Fighting in the war
Now deaths and memories haunt me
Well at least that much is true
I wish I could’ve seen your face
But there was nothing I could do
There was nothing I could do
I couldn’t save you, no
I couldn’t save you
Awkward Lines
I’ll wait for you in a crowded room
Where all the smoke, it will leave me blinded
Though in my head it ain’t nothing new
With awkward lines, we can strive to find it
In every word where you think you’re wrong
These repetitions all sound the strangest
I won’t confess, but it won’t be long
We’ll mark the past and then try to change it
And in this stormy weather
As the rain starts pouring down
We’ll pause to trade these awkward lines we’ve found
I’ve waited here almost half my life
With clips and phrases I’ve torn to pieces
Through the haze until it’s out of sight
The answer’s clear but we’ve never seen it
Now in this room where we find ourselves
Some inhibitions still tired and cracking
Unlike the walls that we built so well
With faltered plans that all met their passing
And in this stormy weather
As the rain starts pouring down
We’ll pause to trade these awkward lines we’ve found
There’s nothing to say, there’s nothing to do
I’ve waited a lifetime to hear it from you
And somewhere it’s safe, well somewhere it’s true
Somewhere in spaces belonging to you
Now I belong to you
I’ll wait for you in a crowded room
Where all the smoke, it will leave me blinded
Though in my head it ain’t nothing new
With awkward lines, we won’t be misguided
With awkward lines, we won’t be misguided
