Babies At 13

She always looked so beautiful
But what was going on?
Behind these curtains, falling, fading
Always standing, contemplating

The things she held back from her past
I never could've known
I found out sitting, never standing
About her life now reprimanding

It's funny how the shy ones
Are the ones you'd least expect
She was having babies at 13
And it's hard now to digest

But they still don't know what's best
They never know what's best

She finds herself backed out of school
And she's working on the line
She comes home listening, her two kids crying
A future left to stop denying

Ain't it strange that she's so young?
She'd stood inside the glow
Maybe thinking, a life worth leading
All the while her life receding

It's funny how the shy ones
Are the ones you'd least expect
She was having babies at 13
And it's hard now to digest

But they still don't know what's best
They never know what's best

And I know that she'd confess
It's a life she would reject

Even though she's made mistakes
It's a past she'll never shake
